Ras ("Ras", "we", "us") is an app for discovering live music, nightlife, and cultural events across Ethiopia. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the Ras mobile app, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep it in plain language because you should actually be able to read it.
The short version: we collect what we need to show you events near you and run your account — nothing more. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and you can delete your account and its data from inside the app at any time.
You sign in with Apple or Google. From your sign-in provider we receive your name, email address, and profile photo (if available). If you use Sign in with Apple's "Hide My Email", we only receive the private relay address Apple generates for you.
Information you add yourself: display name, username, bio, profile photo, your home city, and the kinds of events you're interested in. Your profile name, photo, and bio are visible to other Ras users.
With your permission, we use your device's precise location while you are using the app to show events and venues near you and to center the map. We never access your location in the background, and we do not keep a history of your movements. You can decline location access and browse by city instead; you can revoke it at any time in your device settings.
With your permission we access your photo library when you choose a profile photo or upload an event poster, and your camera when a host scans guest QR codes at check-in. We only receive the images you explicitly select or capture.
If you enable push notifications, we store a device push token so we can deliver them. We also collect basic device information (device model, OS version, app version) to keep the app working correctly.
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We do not use your data for third-party advertising. We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
We share data only with the service providers that make the app run:
| Provider | What for |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Our backend — database, authentication, and file storage for profiles, events, and posters. |
| Google Firebase | Delivering push notifications to your device. |
| Google Maps | Rendering the event map inside the app. |
| Apple / Google | Sign-in, and payment processing if you buy through external ticket links (those purchases happen on the seller's site, not in Ras). |
These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes beyond providing the service. Some of them store data on servers outside Ethiopia; where that happens, the data remains protected under this policy and the providers' safeguards. We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
Ras is a social events app, so some things are visible by design: your profile (name, photo, bio), events you host, and messages you send in event chats. Your email address, precise location, saved events, and ticket details are never shown to other users.
We keep your information for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data — profile, saves, RSVPs, follows, activity history, and photos. Content that other users depend on (for example, an event you hosted that people attended) is anonymized rather than deleted, so it no longer identifies you.
Open the app → Profile → Settings → Delete account. Deletion is permanent and takes effect immediately. You can also email us at hello@ras-et.com and we'll do it for you.
You can access and update your profile information in the app at any time. You may also ask us to provide a copy of your personal data, correct it, or delete it by emailing hello@ras-et.com. We honor these requests in line with applicable law, including Ethiopia's Personal Data Protection Proclamation (No. 1321/2024) and, where it applies to you, the GDPR.
Ras is not for children. You must be at least 16 years old to use the app. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16; if we learn that we have, we will delete it.
Data is encrypted in transit, access to production systems is restricted, and we follow the security practices of our infrastructure providers. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you as required by law if a breach affects you.
If we make material changes, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date, and for significant changes we'll notify you in the app. Continued use of Ras after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
